Why did I get married?| Movie review

Hey Creatures!

In today’s post , I will be sharing my thoughts on the movie-Why did I get married?.

I realize I probably never mentioned this on my blog before, so I’d like to out rightly state that my reviews will always contain spoilers. It might not be major but they will have some key spoiling info. So consider that before you read anything on here. okay? okay.

Summary

‘Four married couples take a week’s vacation each year where the only agenda is asking themselves ‘why did I get married?’ ‘Eight married friends take their annual reunion vacation in the Colorado mountains. Revelations of infidelity involving one pair shatter the amicable mood, forcing the remaining friends to take a hard look at the strength of their own marriages. The couples grapple with issues of commitment, love, betrayal and forgiveness as they try to move on with their lives.’-(This is the summary from google )

My thoughts

Diane and Terry

We hear of cases where one partner feels neglected by the other because of how time consuming their career is. This is how Terry feels about Diane and her work. Diane is a proud career women, who doesn’t want anymore kids. Terry is also a career man but more family oriented and he wants a son, or another child at least. So this was their main issue. We later find out Diane tied her tube without telling him and terry ended up moving out. It was a mess. Terry didn’t like how Diane treated him, and well so did I, which is why I was lowkey hoping he wouldn’t take her back. But he did.

Angela and Marcus

This was the most chaotic couple out of the bunch. I have many feelings towards Angela, but one thing I like the most was that she was outspoken. She will talk you out your shit and back into it. She was a successful salon owner and her husband happened to work for her. I believe their main issue was infidelity and the fact that Marcus has been jobless for 8 years. Angela was really unbearable and It was evident that Marcus really loved her because he stayed. Although I would say that , when Marcus listened to her , she would always calm down and apologize if she was wrong. So I guess it makes sense that Marcus stayed because he knows Angela wasn’t crazy for always nagging.

Sheila and Mike

Mike is a piece of absolute disgusting unforgivable sick shit. While Sheila , is so so breathtaking. She’s so soft-spoken, caring, considerate , she is soo damn fine. I don’t know what she ever saw in Mike. You know how you have people that you like but don’t like at the same time?. Mike did not like Sheila…at all. He would always comment on her weight, her diet and everything wrong he found in her. He made her drive for hours in the cold because the flight attendant said she needed to buy another sit due to her weight. He carried his side chick on the trip for his pleasure of course. I was appalled by his behavior.

Patricia and Gavin

Patricia, who was also a career woman, would always call herself a doctor. I am not really sure if she meant because of a PhD degree or if she meant as an actual medical doctor. I was too busy focusing on other people problems but she actually carried out a lot of research and wrote multiple books including ‘why did I get married?’. Her husband was very supportive of her and her career. He seemed to love her a lot. Their issue was that Patricia got in an accident which killed their only child and since then Patricia moved on as if nothing happened. This was particularly difficult for Gavin because he wanted another child and Patricia was not ready .They seemed like the perfect couple from the outside which is contrary to what is going on on the inside. One thing I would say is that, as a someone that teaches, researches and writes book on self-help and development, she was the problem in her marriage.

My favorite scene

One thing about me, I will enjoy a well deserved revenge. Like a cheating husband getting STD, thinking he got it from the woman he was cheating with, only for him to find out that his wife was cheating first and she was the one that gave it to him. HA! I found a video on YouTube showing the entire dinner scene. I think if you want to get an idea of how chaotic and entertaining this movie is, then just watch this video. This was my favourite part of the movie.

Overall, this was a great watch. It was relaxing , funny and entertaining. I’ll be rating in 5/5. because I will watch it again.

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

Okay that’s it for this post, see you in my next.

5 lessons I learned from The Tinder Swindler

Hey Creatures, (Okay this is a new thing. I want to start having a fixed intro but I’m not sure so I want to try a few posts and see if it’ll stick)

In today’s post, I will be giving my thoughts on The Tinder Swindler on Netflix and lessons I learned from this documentary.

Starting this off , I didn’t know what to expect. I actually thought it was a movie like a fun, relaxing, entertaining movie. Almost like the ‘YOU’ series on Netflix. I’ll tell you now, It was not. and I blame Simon for that.

Summary

A group of women who were the victims of a dating app based swindler join together in an attempt to hunt him down and recover the millions of dollars that were stolen from them.

My Opinion

First of all, let’s talk about Simon. He kept on telling these women that his ‘enemies’ were after him. How Ironic because now his enemies are after him-the women he scammed. Like honestly ,how can someone be this evil? How can someone live comfortably off of people’s money, that they stole?!

These women were ultimately victims in this situation. However, I cannot imagine my self ever being in this situation because of my relationship with money. This documentary was literally an eye opener for me. It taught me some things about life and confirmed some of my ideologies as well.

So let’s get into it

1. Do not lend out money you cannot do without

I am honestly surprised that people don’t follow this ‘rule’ in the first place. If I have £1000 and someone asked me for £900. I cannot lend you that money because if you can’t pay it back, I will be stranded. So it really surprised me that Perlina was willing to lend Simon 30,000 dollars that she was supposed to use to buy an apartment. Even though she could afford to give him the money at the time, clearly she couldn’t do without it if she has a GoFundMe open with the other girls he scammed.

Bottom line: If you can’t do without it ,don’t do without it.

2. Research everyone to the best of your abilities.

I have had this done to me before but I just thought it was odd. After watching this documentary I realize how important this is. Before meeting someone you meet online, research them. This obviously didn’t work in this case because he had changed his name and edited pictures to back up his lies and fake Identity. But, I still think this is important because it might save you from your very own swindler and it’s just a great idea to me.

3. Never leave a conversation with the other person knowing more about you than you do them

This is something I am currently working on because I talk ALOT. Granted that most of the information I tell people about myself are general information. However, I realise how easy it is for someone to learn about me and possibly manipulate me along the line. Also, I think talking less in a conversation will improve my listening skills and make me ask more meaningful questions.

4. Always get your friends involved at some point in your romantic life

Obviously you do not need to take advise from anyone on what is best for your relationship but you should at least have someone to confide in , in situations like this. It could be your mum, pastor or even your therapist, if not your friends. My point here is , it is good to hear out opinions from people around you that genuinely want the best for you. Even hearing opinions from people that don’t like you can be helpful too. Just listen because everyone cannot be talking shit.

5. Do not take out a Loan for anyone

Why Would You Do That Ross Geller GIF

Please do not take out a loan or in the case of Cecilie-9 different loans- for anyone. You know what? Love is blind so let’s say you take a loan out for someone. Make them pay it back before taking out another. Simon was able to forge documents making it seem like he had sent the money so this was part of the ‘scammery’ that Simon did. So I get it. Now here’s why I cannot imagine myself in this situation. The first point I mentioned, I cannot give you what I do not have. Second point, if I don’t have it someone else will and that’s not me.

Okay that’s it for today.

Rating: 4/5
