Why did I get married?| Movie review

Hey Creatures!

In today’s post , I will be sharing my thoughts on the movie-Why did I get married?.

I realize I probably never mentioned this on my blog before, so I’d like to out rightly state that my reviews will always contain spoilers. It might not be major but they will have some key spoiling info. So consider that before you read anything on here. okay? okay.

‘Four married couples take a week’s vacation each year where the only agenda is asking themselves ‘why did I get married?’ ‘Eight married friends take their annual reunion vacation in the Colorado mountains. Revelations of infidelity involving one pair shatter the amicable mood, forcing the remaining friends to take a hard look at the strength of their own marriages. The couples grapple with issues of commitment, love, betrayal and forgiveness as they try to move on with their lives.’-(This is the summary from google )

My thoughts

Diane and Terry

We hear of cases where one partner feels neglected by the other because of how time consuming their career is. This is how Terry feels about Diane and her work. Diane is a proud career women, who doesn’t want anymore kids. Terry is also a career man but more family oriented and he wants a son, or another child at least. So this was their main issue. We later find out Diane tied her tube without telling him and terry ended up moving out. It was a mess. Terry didn’t like how Diane treated him, and well so did I, which is why I was lowkey hoping he wouldn’t take her back. But he did.

Angela and Marcus

This was the most chaotic couple out of the bunch. I have many feelings towards Angela, but one thing I like the most was that she was outspoken. She will talk you out your shit and back into it. She was a successful salon owner and her husband happened to work for her. I believe their main issue was infidelity and the fact that Marcus has been jobless for 8 years. Angela was really unbearable and It was evident that Marcus really loved her because he stayed. Although I would say that , when Marcus listened to her , she would always calm down and apologize if she was wrong. So I guess it makes sense that Marcus stayed because he knows Angela wasn’t crazy for always nagging.

Sheila and Mike

Mike is a piece of absolute disgusting unforgivable sick shit. While Sheila , is so so breathtaking. She’s so soft-spoken, caring, considerate , she is soo damn fine. I don’t know what she ever saw in Mike. You know how you have people that you like but don’t like at the same time?. Mike did not like Sheila…at all. He would always comment on her weight, her diet and everything wrong he found in her. He made her drive for hours in the cold because the flight attendant said she needed to buy another sit due to her weight. He carried his side chick on the trip for his pleasure of course. I was appalled by his behavior.

Patricia and Gavin

Patricia, who was also a career woman, would always call herself a doctor. I am not really sure if she meant because of a PhD degree or if she meant as an actual medical doctor. I was too busy focusing on other people problems but she actually carried out a lot of research and wrote multiple books including ‘why did I get married?’. Her husband was very supportive of her and her career. He seemed to love her a lot. Their issue was that Patricia got in an accident which killed their only child and since then Patricia moved on as if nothing happened. This was particularly difficult for Gavin because he wanted another child and Patricia was not ready .They seemed like the perfect couple from the outside which is contrary to what is going on on the inside. One thing I would say is that, as a someone that teaches, researches and writes book on self-help and development, she was the problem in her marriage.

My favorite scene

One thing about me, I will enjoy a well deserved revenge. Like a cheating husband getting STD, thinking he got it from the woman he was cheating with, only for him to find out that his wife was cheating first and she was the one that gave it to him. HA! I found a video on YouTube showing the entire dinner scene. I think if you want to get an idea of how chaotic and entertaining this movie is, then just watch this video. This was my favourite part of the movie.

Overall, this was a great watch. It was relaxing , funny and entertaining. I’ll be rating in 5/5. because I will watch it again.

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

Okay that’s it for this post, see you in my next.

Phone Swap Movie Review| Nigerian Romantic Comedy.

Today I will be reviewing the amazing Nigerian movie called Phone Swap. Am I spoiling my spoiler review by telling you on the first line that it was an amazing watch? Yes , I am.

So let’s get into it

I watched this movie the other day and my friend is a living witness. I was actually laughing and grinning like a Cheshire cat. It was a really relaxing and entertaining watch.

Mary is clearly overwhelmed by work , her boss was taking credit for her designs , her neighbours remained nosy by constantly asking her when she was going to marry. Her father was calling her for conflict resolution in regards to her troublesome younger sister. Her younger sister, physically assaults her husband, in this particular case she had grabbed her husbands pen!s and squeezed it…aggressively. Hence , as the first born , Mary had to come and help beg the husband and his family member to forgive her. Around this time, Mary found that her boyfriend was married. Chaos.

Akin was an arrogant business man, he was trying to go behind his boss back to encourage a merger between departments that may cause a lot of his colleagues to loose their jobs. He was trying to also make his way up the ladder as well. He had a leach for a girlfriend and I think to an extent, he was actually done with their relationship. He had a loquacious assistant, who informed his mum of his daily movement. His mum, who has also been pressuring him to bring his girl friend home.

In addition to these two main Characters were others such as Mary’s family, Mary’s co-worker, Akin’s Mother ,his assistant as well as his co-workers. All these added to the comedic flair of the movie. Although I need to say that , the way Akin and Mary fell in love felt a bit rushed.

Favourite Scene

My favourite scene in this movie was Akin’s first time eating in Mary’s house. A lot of traditional Nigerian meals are eaten with our hands. However, Akin came from a ‘Westernised’ household where he is used to eating with Cutleries. Imagine eating Eba with fork and knife in a traditionally/culturally driven Nigerian household looool. Anyways, I found it funny because everyone was digging into the food with their hands and Akin was there asking for cutlery.

Rating: 4.5/5

I will definitely watch again.
